Botanical concertina book

When it comes to creativity, there are many roads and paths to travel, and there always is a choice.

I easily lose track because of these choices. For years I’ve tried to find a specific style which can be defined. A struggle sometimes, as I love painting and drawing so many different things with different mediums. Portraits, botanicals, animals and little illustrations. And recently I discovered the use of color pencils in my paintings.

This artjournal was the start of being more expressive. I started with an old painting I didn’t like and I cut it in 4 strips. I then made a long concertina book form the strips and started adding shapes and collages on the painted backgrounds. Without thinking of a result. It was such a relief to not have a goal in mind. I won’t be looking for that ‘specific style’ that defines ‘me’.

I feel like being in the middle of one big proces, with so many possibilities, learning so many things day by day. Where to go is not a question for me, I will let the flow take me wherever it goes. And enjoy this creative journey. Not perfect, but I can accept it and, even more important, appreciate and treasure it.

I like to illustrate my imaginary world by expressing and translating my thoughts and feelings into color and pattern.
